The Standard Configuration for Ducted Homes
A split system is the configuration most homeowners picture when they think of central air: an outdoor condenser connected by refrigerant lines to an indoor evaporator coil, which sits on top of a furnace or air handler and pushes cooled air through existing ductwork. For homes in Seven Oaks, SC with ductwork already in place, split-system installation is typically the most cost-effective path to whole-home cooling, since it uses the distribution system the house already has rather than adding new equipment throughout the entire home.
What's Matched, and Why It Matters
A split system's performance depends on how well its components are matched to each other and to the home they're serving:
- Condenser and coil matched for tonnage and SEER2 rating - mismatched components underperform regardless of either unit's individual rating on paper
- Refrigerant line set sized and, when reused, verified for compatibility with the new refrigerant type
- Existing ductwork inspected for leaks, undersized runs, or damage before the new system is connected to it
- Air handler or furnace blower confirmed compatible with the new coil's airflow requirements
Connecting a new high-efficiency condenser to old, leaky ductwork is one of the most common reasons homeowners don't see the efficiency improvement they expected - the equipment can only perform as well as the duct system delivering its output to every room in the house.
Ductwork Condition Is Part of the Job
Before recommending a specific system, Fort Worth AC Repair inspects the existing ductwork for leaks, crushed sections, and undersized returns, since these issues quietly cap a new system's performance no matter how efficient the equipment itself is rated to be. Where duct sealing or minor repair would meaningfully improve results, that's flagged as part of the estimate - not sold as a separate surprise after the installation is already complete and the invoice is due.
